Scenic 129 - The Trip to Black Creek
So, if you're trailering, how do you get to Black Creek Outfitters? Thessalon, Ontario is where the turn off is as you head north on Highway 129. A portion of the day's excitement starts with the drive along fresh pavement, laid down, this past summer of 2024, for the first 32kms all the way to the Kynoch turnoff. The real joy of the road trip kicks in when the highway drops down to and sweeps along the majestic Mississagi River, for a 24 km stretch, before it breaks away and gets back into wilderness. What an opportunity for some breath-taking, scenic views of twists and turns with panoramic mountain bluffs on both sides of the river staring at you.

Trail Conditions
What's really convenient about staging at Black Creek is the opportunity to snowmobile in multiple directions, then return to Black Creek for fuel, food and coffee, then back out into the wilderness for more riding, in a different direction. On this day trip, I ran two routes, the 1st one was the west side of highway 129 that runs south paralleling the Mississagi River, then turned around and headed back up to Black Creek. The 2nd route of the day was east-bound side of highway 129, down the Black Creek road heading towards Elliot Lake. I pulled into Aubrey Lake to check out the beauty of the water with rolling hills in the background. The trip wrapped up with a night-time ride back out to the parked staging area, then loaded up and a wonderful night drive down to Thessalon and over to Sault Ste. Marie.
